Bokeria also alleged that corruption within the government has had a direct impact on prices

An opposition figure, Giga Bokeria, has accused the government of failing to respond effectively to economic pressures and linked rising prices to corruption.

Speaking at a press conference held by an opposition alliance, Bokeria said that in situations where crises were driven by international factors, “responsible governments” take extraordinary measures, but argued that the opposite is happening in Georgia.

He criticised what he described as an attempt by the authorities to attribute price increases to external factors and shift responsibility onto businesses.

Bokeria also alleged that corruption within the government has had a direct impact on prices, claiming that illicitly obtained funds ultimately place a burden on consumers.

According to him, businesses are forced to pass these costs on to customers, contributing to higher prices.

He called for immediate economic measures, including reducing the tax burden and tightening monetary policy, as well as broader political change.
