Giorgi Botkoveli, Regional Secretary of the United National Movement (UNM), has called on Georgia’s political forces and civil society to take greater responsibility and unite against the country’s ruling political establishment.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Botkoveli said that all political actors in Georgia should act with increased responsibility in the current political environment.
“All political forces who are in Georgia today have greater responsibility,” Botkoveli said, adding that opposition groups should set aside differences and work together toward a common goal.
He said unity was necessary and argued that both political parties and civil society organisations should align their efforts.
Botkoveli also rejected comparisons between Georgia and Hungary, saying the two countries’ political contexts were not identical.
He further criticised the current political situation, referring to the founder and honorary chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, Bidzina Ivanishvili, and said opposition forces should focus their efforts on a single objective in confronting the ruling political influence.
