Former Prime Minister and chair of the opposition Gakharia for Georgia party, Giorgi Gakharia, has accused the ruling Georgian Dream of demonstrating “open collaboration” with Russia, claiming the party has once again refused to support a parliamentary resolution condemning what he described as the ongoing annexation of Georgia’s occupied Tskhinvali region.
In a statement published on social media, Gakharia said Russia has accelerated the de facto annexation process in the occupied Tskhinvali region, with the aim of integrating Georgian territories into Russia. According to him, the process includes the appointment of a Russian official to lead the occupation administration and the rapid implementation of the so-called “integration agreement” signed on May 9, 2026.
Gakharia criticised the Georgian Government and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze for their silence on the issue.
“In the face of these extremely dangerous processes, the Government and Kobakhidze remain silent, refusing to condemn the blatant violations of Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty,” he said.
The opposition leader further alleged that Georgian Dream is engaging in “open collaboration” with the occupying state by refusing to back his party’s draft parliamentary resolution condemning the alleged annexation process.
Gakharia also called on the international community to continue condemning Russia’s violations of international law and to support the Georgian people in defending the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and European future.
“I would like to remind the current Georgian Government, that they will not escape responsibility for betraying Georgia and its territorial integrity,” Gakharia wrote.
