Developments in Georgia were funded from abroad, Georgian Dream MP Giorgi Kakhiani has said, drawing parallels between protests in Georgia and demonstrations in other countries.
“The processes that developed in Georgia were funded from outside the country,” Kakhiani said on Thursday, arguing that developments abroad also pointed to the possibility of external funding.
He said this reinforced the need for Georgia’s transparency law, which the ruling party considers to be in the country’s national interests.
Kakhiani also welcomed plea agreements reached with individuals convicted over the events of 4 October, during anti-government protests, saying that admitting guilt and expressing remorse were positive steps. He said plea agreements reflected the state’s approach to people who acknowledged their wrongdoing.
