China does not want Russia to lose war, but does not want it to win either, Georgian expert

China may be preventing Russia from losing the war in Ukraine and supporting its economy to some extent, but Beijing does not want Moscow to win the conflict either, international relations expert Giorgi Loladze has said.

According to Loladze, China needs an isolated and weakened Russia that becomes increasingly dependent on Beijing and assumes the role of its junior partner.

"China and India are the two countries, particularly China, thanks to which the Russian economy has survived over these years," Loladze said.

He argued that while Western countries had sought to isolate Russia and impose sanctions, Chinese companies and the Chinese economy had increasingly absorbed Russia's economy.

Loladze said that after sanctions and price restrictions were imposed on Russian oil and energy exports, China and India emerged as Russia's two main buyers.

He also highlighted China's opposition to the proliferation and use of nuclear weapons, describing both issues as red lines for Beijing.

"China may not allow Russia to lose this war and may support its economy to some extent, but China does not want Russia to win the war either," Loladze said.

"China needs an isolated and weakened Russia that increasingly becomes China's junior partner," he added.
