Georgia’s parliamentary vice speaker, Giorgi Volski, has rejected opposition’s claims over the government’s absence from the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in China, calling them “false, fraudulent and shameful”.

In press comments on Monday, Volski said only member states, observer countries or dialogue partners - such as Armenia and Azerbaijan - were eligible to attend the gathering, stressing that Georgia did not fall into those categories.

He accused political opponents of exploiting the issue for partisan purposes, describing them as “enemies of the state”.
