Georgian Education, Science and Youth Minister Givi Mikanadze has visited New Georgian University in Poti, where he reviewed its educational infrastructure, archival resources and current and planned projects.
Mikanadze was hosted by the university's rector, his Eminence Grigoli Berbichashvili of Poti and Khobi, who briefed him on the institution's activities.
"Poti has a centuries-old tradition of education and the dissemination of knowledge, which continues today through the development of modern educational institutions. New Georgian University is a clear example of this, providing hundreds of young people each year with knowledge and spiritual education that are extremely important for the development of future generations and the well-being of our country," Mikanadze said.
He said the university was strengthening its international standing by expanding its educational and research activities.
"Next year, a major international conference will be held here, bringing together more than 400 foreign guests from countries around the world. This further highlights the university's importance, its mission and its special role in the development of both Poti and the country as a whole," Mikanadze said.
The visit was also attended by Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti State Representative Davit Verava, Poti Mayor Beka Vacharadze and Poti City Council Chair Aleksandre Tkebuchava.
New Georgian University offers master's and doctoral programmes in Christian philosophy and Christian psychology, with a focus on research, international cooperation and the training of highly qualified specialists.

The building includes classrooms equipped to modern academic standards, teaching and research laboratories, a multifunctional conference hall, a computer centre and a multidisciplinary library.
