Opposition figure and former official under the United National Movement government, Givi Targamadze, has been released from Rustavi’s Penitentiary Establishment No. 12 after completing a seven-month prison sentence.

Targamadze had been convicted for failing to comply with a request from a temporary parliamentary investigative commission probing alleged crimes under the UNM rule. The court found him guilty of refusing to fulfil the commission’s lawful demand, a charge brought amid heightened political tensions.

He was detained on 27 June 2025, after voluntarily presenting himself at the Vake-Saburtalo police department in central Tbilisi. This followed the court’s announcement of a custodial sentence against him.
