Gov’t to maintain coronavirus restrictions even if Covid-passports are introduced

Georgian Deputy Health Minister, Tamar Gabunia, says that the government will maintain coronavirus restrictions even in the case Covid-passports are introduced in the country, which offer benefits for vaccinated individuals.
She stated that the epidemiological situation is severe in Georgia and the country may need field hospitals to receive critical and serious Covid-19 patients.
Gabunia did not exclude imposing additional restrictions to curb the spread of the virus.Head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control, Amiran Gamkrelidze, stated earlier today that the country has not reported Delta plus variant so far, which is spreading abroad and is more contiguous and difficult to treat compared to the initial Delta variant which is currently dominant in Georgia.
“However, the new Delta plus variant may appear in the country soon,” Gamkrelidze said. The health officials say that the vaccination rate remains low in the country ‘which is alarming’, ranging between 3,000-4,000 over the past several weeks.
Georgia reported 5,206 new cases of coronavirus, 4,648 recoveries and 53 deaths in the past 24 hours.49,619 individuals remain infected with Covid-19 in Georgia as of today.
1,990,501 individuals have been vaccinated in Georgia since March 2021, of which 946,395 have been completely vaccinated.
