Gov’t: wearing of facemasks to be mandatory only in transport, medical facilities

Starting today people in Georgia will be obliged to wear facemasks only in the public transport and while in medical facilities, PM Irakli Garibashvili said today, noting that the situation in terms of the coronavirus pandemic has been “much stabilized.”

“The government had discussed the issue. Health Minister Zurab Azarashvili has met with healthcare experts and it was decided that from now on the mandatory use of facemasks will be maintained only in medical facilities and public transport. All other coronavirus restrictions  have been lifted,” Garibashvili said.

“The situation is very calm in terms of coronavirus.This allows us to further lighten regulations. Students in schools were particularly bothered by constant wearing of medical masks.  We will observe the dynamics of the virus and act accordingly,” Garibashvili added.

Georgia has reported 51 new cases of coronavirus and one death in the past 24 hours.
