Georgia’s former security chief Liluashvili sentenced to 13 years in prison

Tbilisi City Court has sentenced former head of Georgia’s State Security Service Grigol Liluashvili to 13 years in prison in a corruption case involving allegations of taking a particularly large bribe and protecting call-centre operations.

Liluashvili was present in court when the verdict was announced on Wednesday. He used his right to make a final statement during Tuesday’s hearing and said he would continue his fight through legal means.

Liluashvili was arrested on 23 December 2025 after appearing for questioning at the Prosecutor’s Office. He has been charged with taking a particularly large bribe by a group acting under a prior agreement, an offence carrying a prison sentence of 11 to 15 years under Georgia’s Criminal Code.

The prosecution has also accused him of protecting call-centre operations. Liluashvili denies the charges.

The case was heard by Judge Nino Tarashvili at Tbilisi City Court. The defence had argued that the prosecution lacked sufficient evidence, while prosecutors maintained that the evidence established Liluashvili’s involvement in the alleged offences.
