Georgian Health Minister Zurab Azarashvili says that there is no need for field hospitals in the country despite a surge in new infections as the Omicron strain of coronavirus has spread rapidly in the country.

Azarashvili says that despite new cases exceeding 13,000, only 5,000 of 8,000 beds are occupied in hospitals.

He said that the number of online clinics, where currently 2,500 doctors are present, will increase as the majority of coronavirus patients are undergoing treatment at home.

Georgia has reported 13,150 new cases, 8,503 recoveries, and 35 deaths in the past 24 hours.

The positivity rate for the past seven days stands at 23.80%.

151,139 individuals remain infected with coronavirus in Georgia as of now.
