Health official: gov’t to approve new vaccination plan with various incentives

Head of Georgia’s National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) Amiran Gamkrelidze says that the government is expected to approve a new vaccination plan in the coming days which would include various incentives to encourage the vaccination process against Covid-19.

Gamkrelidze stated earlier today that 400,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine will expire at the end of March which is ‘very regrettable,’ adding that as the vaccine came from donors there was no loss of state funds.

Georgia has already received Paxlovid, an investigational SARS-CoV-2 protease inhibitor antiviral therapy by Pfizer which will be given to patients per the prescription of family doctors.

The medicine will not be sold in pharmacies, the Georgian Health Ministry will ensure its distribution.

About 43 percent of the country’s adult population has been fully vaccinated since March 2021, while health officials say that 70 percent should be vaccinated by mid-summer.

Gamkrelidze says that the virus has already spiked in some states and the vaccination will ensure a low rate of deaths if the virus still surges in Georgia.
