The Delegation of the European Union to Georgia has launched a series of events in the country’s western city of Kutaisi dedicated to the longstanding partnership between Georgia and the EU.
Addressing attendees at the official opening ceremony, EU Ambassador to Georgia Paweł Herczyński highlighted the symbolic significance of the host city.
“Kutaisi is a city of knowledge, progress and democratic values, which makes it a truly fitting place to celebrate Europe Day. We are here to underline more than 30 years of friendship and partnership. I invite everyone to join us, feel the energy of Imereti, and discover what unites the European Union and Georgia,” the Ambassador said.
The EU Delegation said the programme in Kutaisi offered a diverse mix of physical, cultural and intellectual activities. Across the city, visitors were able to take part in a 12-kilometre bike tour and explore a Europe Day fair showcasing a variety of Georgian products and handmade items.
The intellectual agenda included discussions organised in cooperation with the United Nations in Georgia on the theme Women as a Driving Force for Change. A cultural component featured the audiovisual exhibition This Country Is Yours and a photography masterclass History Before Your Eyes with a photographer Natela Grigalashvili.
As part of Europe Day, a photography exhibition 10 Years in Focus displayed award-winning works from the EU Prize for Journalism. The day concluded with the screening of the documentary Kutaisi Wave, produced with support from the EU4Culture programme and showcasing the city’s vibrant alternative cultural scene and social resilience.
The events were open to citizens of all ages, offering an opportunity to learn more about the EU’s work in Georgia, engage in cultural exchange and explore the shared values that bind Georgia and the European Union.
