“If there is hell anywhere, it is in Azovstal,”- said Petro Andriushenko, an adviser to the mayor of Mariupol as Russian troops are intensively bombing the territory of the steel plant with civilians and injured militraty still inside.
“In some areas, hostilities are already outside the plant fence,” Andriushenko said.
He stated that the civilians should evacuate from the residential areas near the plant themselves.
“The last 11 square kilometers of freedom in Mariupol have turned into hell,” said the mayor’s adviser, as Azovstal is the last stronghold in the city which has been completely destroyed by the Russian military since the beginning of invasion on February 24.
He said the efforts of the Ukrainian authorities are focused on protecting the industrial complex and managing further evacuations.
The Azov regiment is still maintaining control of the plant. However, they say the situation is critical.
