Georgia’s Foreign Minister backs Speaker’s call for ’’respective dialogue,’’ opposes “biased interference” from EU

Georgia’s Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili has expressed support for recent statements made by the Speaker of Parliament regarding the visit of European delegation. Darchiashvili stated that Georgia values its partnerships but emphasized that these relationships must involve a genuine understanding and acknowledgment of the country’s challenges, which have driven the need for specific legal measures.

“Our partners need to listen and understand the specific challenges we face, which have necessitated certain legal regulations in our country. I am confident that our partners will see that biased attitudes and interventions, such as those we sometimes encounter, are unacceptable to us,” he remarked.

Darchiashvili also underscored Georgia’s readiness for constructive dialogue, stressing that while engagement is welcomed, it must be balanced and respectful of Georgia’s sovereignty.

“I am sure that, sooner or later, those who engage in such interference will understand that this is not an acceptable approach. We are always open to constructive dialogue, but not to one-sided conversations. We look forward to having open and genuine discussions with our partners,” Darchiashvili added.

The Foreign Minister further noted that Georgia has many partners willing to listen to its arguments, emphasizing that mutual respect and strategic interest should underpin these relations.

“This approach will ultimately lead us toward enhancing policies of mutual strategic interest, which will benefit everyone involved,” he concluded.

Georgia’s Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili has declined a meeting with a delegation led by Lithuanian MP Žygimantas Pavilionis, which includes representatives from several EU countries currently visiting Georgia. In an open letter, Papuashvili cited concerns about the delegation’s “political bias” and their previous “unfriendly stance” toward Georgia.
