Police in western Georgia have arrested a man on suspicion of attempting to murder three women, including members of his own family, in what authorities described as an aggravated offence.
The suspect has previous convictions and was serving a suspended sentence at the time of the incident.
Investigators said the man, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, used a knife to inflict multiple injuries on his wife, his mother and a female friend of his wife.
All three victims were taken to hospital for medical treatment.
The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident following operational and investigative measures carried out by officers of the Imereti Police Department.
Police said they recovered the weapon, a knife, as evidence.
The investigation is being conducted under provisions of Georgia's Criminal Code relating to the attempted intentional murder of multiple persons under aggravating circumstances. The offence carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years' imprisonment or life imprisonment if convicted.
