Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of Georgia, Irakli Chikovani, is paying an official visit to the Republic of Türkiye, where he is taking part in the Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Georgia trilateral meeting of defence ministers.
As part of the visit, Minister Chikovani held a bilateral meeting with his Turkish counterpart, Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler.
The Ministry of Defence of Georgia on Thursday said Chikovani thanked the Turkish Defence Minister and the Turkish side for their firm support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Minister highlighted Türkiye’s material, technical, and financial assistance to the development of Georgia’s Defence Forces over the decades, as well as its contribution to the implementation of initiatives under the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package (SNGP).
During the meeting, the ministers discussed issues of bilateral cooperation in the defence field, which has been developing dynamically for more than two decades, the Ministry press office said.
One of the main topics of the discussion was the current global security environment, the security of the Black Sea region, and related challenges. Minister Chikovani emphasized that in this context, the strategic partnership between Georgia and the Republic of Türkiye was of particular importance. The sides underlined the positive dynamics of cooperation, reflected in the exchange of high-level visits between the two countries - including, most recently, the official visit of the President of Georgia to the Republic of Türkiye.
