Irakli Kirtskhalia: Honouring Our Fallen Heroes Means Reuniting With Our Abkhaz and Ossetian Brothers and Sisters Through Peace and Reconciliation

September 27 is one of the most painful days in Georgia’s recent history, and first and foremost, we bow our heads in memory of the heroes who lost their lives, Parliamentary Majority Leader Irakli Kirtskhalia said at the memorial to those who died fighting for Georgia’s territorial integrity, as the country marked the anniversary of the fall of Sokhumi.

Kirtskhalia also highlighted the Georgian Dream government’s policy of peaceful conflict resolution.

“When it comes to the peace policy pursued by the Georgian Dream team, the memory of these heroes obliges us to reunite with one another with our Abkhaz and Ossetian brothers and sisters solely through peace, pragmatic policies and reconciliation.

Georgia has endured extremely difficult years and has learned the true cost of war through its recent history.

The memory of these heroes also places a responsibility on us to ensure that such a tragedy never happens again in Georgia. The overwhelming majority of Georgian society wants the country’s territorial integrity to be restored exclusively through peaceful means, and our team will do everything possible to achieve this,” Kirtskhalia said.
