Ruling party majority leader challenges ex-PM Garibashvili over personal wealth over latest prison letter

Georgian Dream parliamentary majority leader Irakli Kirtskhalia has challenged former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili to explain how he accumulated personal assets worth millions of lari, responding to Garibashvili’s latest letter from prison.

Kirtskhalia said Garibashvili’s latest letter focused largely on his own achievements during his second term as prime minister, while mentioning the Georgian Dream team only formally.

“Unlike his previous statements, which focused on the treacherous but non-existent trap allegedly set for him and his imprisonment, the new letter was devoted from beginning to end to his merits before the country,” Kirtskhalia said.

He added the ruling team had one question for Garibashvili that the former prime minister had long avoided answering - how he accumulated personal property worth millions of lari.

Kirtskhalia also compared Garibashvili’s statements about his political achievements with those of former President Mikheil Saakashvili, accusing both of focusing on their own role in Georgia’s development while disputing the allegations against them.
