The Georgian government plans to announce a construction tender by the end of October for an 18km railway link to the Anaklia port project, with the line expected to cost around $200 million, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said Friday.

Speaking at an event dedicated to Railway Workers’ Day, Kobakhidze said the project was being developed with support from the World Bank and would improve rail connectivity to Anaklia on Georgia’s Black Sea coast.

The PM also highlighted changes at Georgian Railway over the past year and a half, saying the company had revised its commercial and operational management processes, cut inefficient expenditure and improved resource management.

The official stressed the optimisation measures had saved the company 190 million lari.

He said the reform process was continuing, with further changes planned by the end of the year.
