Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has said there is no evidence to support allegations of sexual violence made by prisoner Giorgi Davitadze against prison staff.

Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, Kobakhidze said video footage of the incident showed that guards had used force proportionately.

“There is no fact or evidence that could indicate that the allegation is justified,” he said, adding that neither the Public Defender’s Office nor the Prosecutor’s Office had found evidence to substantiate the claims.

The case concerns an incident at Penitentiary Establishment No. 6 in Rustavi on 21 December 2025. Davitadze alleged that prison staff subjected him to sexual violence during a search in a de-escalation cell.

The Special Penitentiary Service denied the allegations and released CCTV footage of the incident. The Public Defender’s Office said the available footage did not corroborate the alleged severe abuse but called for a thorough investigation.

On 9 October, the Prosecutor’s Office terminated the investigation, concluding that no crime had occurred.
