Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday said it was “very regrettable and tragic” that a former prime minister Irakli Garibashvili had “fallen to the level of a blogger for a particular dark newspaper.”

Kobakhidze made the remarks while speaking to journalists in Batumi, in response to questions concerning former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili’s recent letters and his claims regarding the death of human rights advocate Lazare Jorbenadze.

“Through a deceased person, a lie was disseminated, which is very easy to expose,” Kobakhidze said.

“The only thing I can say about these letters is that they are both ridiculous and tragic. I will not go into greater depth, because this person held the position of prime minister before me, and that prevents me from making any substantive comment on these letters. Secondly, the content of these letters is so unserious that this also prevents me from commenting on them seriously,” Kobakhidze said.

He alleged that those disseminating what he described as false information were behind the claims.

“Those who spread such falsehoods are behind this. This is not even hidden; it is easily exposed. There are forces that do not exactly have a good reputation, and it is very regrettable that this involves a particular media outlet,” he said.
