Kobakhidze Accuses Gakharia’s Party of Expecting Government Overthrow Before Deciding to Enter Parliament

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has accused former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia’s party of anticipating the overthrow of the country’s constitutional order on October 4, claiming that its decision to enter parliament came only after those events failed to achieve their alleged objective.

Responding to a question about Gakharia’s party, Kobakhidze said statements by two of its leaders suggested that the party had been awaiting the outcome of the October 4 events before determining its parliamentary strategy.

“We have heard what amount to admissions from them. We heard statements from two of their leaders saying that they decided to enter parliament after the failure of October 4,” Kobakhidze said.

According to the Prime Minister, those statements indicated that the party had expected an attempt to overthrow the constitutional order to succeed and had subsequently adjusted its position.

“This simply means that they were expecting the overthrow of the constitutional order, and because that did not happen, they made a pragmatic decision,” he stated.

Kobakhidze further alleged that Gakharia’s party had previously been involved in what he characterized as a broader political plan aimed at undermining Georgia’s constitutional system.

“Before that, they were, of course, also part of the planning aimed at achieving that political objective,” the Prime Minister said.
