Georgian PM Kobakhidze: Trust in EU Remains High, but Confidence in European Commission Is Low

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said public trust in the European Union remains high in Georgia, while confidence in the European Commission is significantly lower.

Speaking at the EU Enlargement Summit organised by Euronews in Brussels, Kobakhidze argued that Georgian society remains committed to European integration while continuing to support the ruling Georgian Dream party.

“Trust in the European Union is very high, but trust in the European Commission is low,” Kobakhidze said.

The prime minister also highlighted what he described as strong public support for Georgian Dream, citing the party’s electoral performance as evidence of continued confidence in his government.

“Georgian society has a high level of trust in Georgian Dream. Fifty-one percent of the Georgian population went to polling stations and voted for us. These circumstances demonstrate that Georgian society remains committed to European integration,” he said.

Kobakhidze reiterated that Georgians distinguish between the European Union as an institution and the European Commission, arguing that public confidence in the latter remains limited.

“Trust in the European Commission is low, while people trust Georgian Dream. In the last elections, 54% of voters supported us,” he added.
