Geka Geladze, who on Monday resigned as head of Georgia’s State Security Service (GSSS), will take up a new position as deputy interior minister, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said.
Kobakhidze thanked Geladze for his work, describing him as an exceptionally honest and professional official. He said Geladze had made a “significant contribution” to strengthening state security and combating crime, including organised crime, drug-related offences and corruption.
“Geladze will take the position of deputy interior minister. With his knowledge and experience, he will significantly strengthen the team of the Interior Ministry,” Kobakhidze said.
Geladze previously served as interior minister from May 2025 until April 2026, before becoming head of the GSSS following a government reshuffle.
He was appointed the agency chief in April 2026, replacing Mamuka Mdinaradze. His resignation comes less than five months into his tenure.
