Georgian agri-food exports hit record $1.85 billion, PM Kobakhidze says

Georgia’s agri-food exports reached a record $1.845 billion last year, with products shipped to more than 110 countries, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said during an event marking Farmers’ Day.

Kobakhidze said the sector had maintained its upward momentum this year, with exports in the first seven months rising by 14% compared with the same period last year.

“Georgian agri-food products are steadily establishing their place in international markets,” the prime minister said, attributing the sector’s growth to government support programmes and the efforts of local farmers.

According to Kobakhidze, agri-food products now account for nearly a quarter, or 24%, of Georgia’s total exports.

The prime minister said the government had introduced a unified state agricultural co-financing programme and a farmers’ registry this year to support domestic production, reduce dependence on imports and strengthen the country’s export potential.

“Alongside the hard work and professionalism of our farmers, consistent government policies have made a significant contribution to the continued development of Georgian agriculture,” he said.

Kobakhidze also welcomed growing interest in agriculture among young people and an increase in the number of women working in the sector.

He said younger generations were bringing new knowledge, modern technologies and fresh energy to Georgian agriculture, contributing to its long-term development.

“The tireless efforts of our farmers have transformed Georgian land into a genuine economic asset and a solid foundation for the country’s development,” Kobakhidze said.

The prime minister concluded his remarks by thanking farmers for their contribution to the economy and extending his congratulations on Farmers’ Day.
