Georgian PM Kobakhidze: Georgian Dream Government Enshrined EU Membership Aspirations in Constitution

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said European Union integration remains one of Georgia’s key priorities, emphasizing that the country’s ambition to become a full member of the bloc is enshrined in its Constitution.

Speaking at the EU Enlargement Summit organised by Euronews in Brussels, Kobakhidze said the constitutional provision was introduced under the Georgian Dream government, reflecting what he described as the country’s longstanding commitment to European integration.

“EU enlargement is one of the main priorities in Georgia. This is enshrined in the Georgian Constitution, and it was the Georgian government — the Georgian Dream government — that introduced this provision into the Constitution, establishing Georgia’s ambition to become a full member of the European Union,” Kobakhidze said.

The prime minister stressed that Georgian society remains committed to the country’s European aspirations, linking that commitment to the ruling party’s victory in the 2024 parliamentary elections.

“Georgian society remains committed to this objective, and it was with this in mind that we won the 2024 parliamentary elections. The main slogan of our campaign was ‘Towards Europe with Dignity’,” he said.

Kobakhidze’s remarks come amid continued tensions between Georgia and EU institutions over the country’s European integration process.
