Georgian PM: Hundreds of Millions Spent Annually to Strengthen Country’s Defence System

Georgia spends hundreds of millions each year to strengthen its defence capabilities, including investments in weapons and military infrastructure, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said.

Kobakhidze made the remarks during an appearance on Open Air, a programme aired by Georgia’s Imedi TV, while responding to a question about the strength of the country’s defence system and military acquisitions in recent years.

According to the prime minister, detailed information on defence expenditure and specific weapons purchases is classified for national security reasons.

“As for a strong defence and whether the state has acquired anything for its defence over the years hundreds of millions are spent every year,” Kobakhidze said.

“I cannot provide a detailed breakdown because the information is classified. No one should know specifically which types of weapons these funds are being spent on,” he added.

Kobakhidze said the government continues to allocate substantial resources to strengthening Georgia’s defence capabilities across several areas.

“Hundreds of millions are spent every year on strengthening the defence system, including on weapons and infrastructure,” the prime minister said.
