Kobakhidze: Georgia plans $7 billion investment in major transport infrastructure projects by 2032

Georgia plans to invest $7 billion in major transport infrastructure projects by 2032 to strengthen regional connectivity, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said in his address to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Kobakhidze said the planned investment would cover the modernisation of Georgia’s railway network, development of the Anaklia deep-sea port, construction of a new international airport in Tbilisi and expansion of the country’s highway network.

“To support and further advance the connectivity agenda, Georgia plans to invest $7 billion in major transport infrastructure projects by 2032, including the modernisation of the railway network, development of the Anaklia deep-sea port, construction of a new international airport in Tbilisi and expansion of the highway network,” Kobakhidze said.

The prime minister stressed that physical and digital connectivity were two integral components of the same strategic agenda.

“At the same time, we believe that physical and digital connectivity are two components of the same strategic agenda.

“Through the Black Sea submarine fibre-optic cable and next-generation data infrastructure, Georgia aims to strengthen secure, resilient and diversified digital connections between Europe and Asia.

“These ambitious plans are underpinned by Georgia’s strong economic performance,” Kobakhidze said.
