Georgian PM Irakli Kobakhidze meets Swiss Vice President, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Ignazio Cassis

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze met with Swiss Vice President and Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis, who also serves as the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

According to the Georgian government’s press office, the two officials discussed bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Georgia and Switzerland, based on mutual respect and shared values. They highlighted positive developments in political, economic, people-to-people and parliamentary relations.

Kobakhidze thanked Switzerland for its support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders, as well as its policy of non-recognition of the country’s occupied territories.

The two sides also emphasised Switzerland’s important role as a mediator between Georgia and Russia, which have no formal diplomatic relations.

The meeting also addressed Cassis’s planned visit to Georgia in October in his capacity as OSCE Chairperson-in-Office.

The Georgian side reaffirmed the country’s commitment to remaining a constructive and responsible OSCE participating State, supporting dialogue and respecting the principles of international law.

The meeting was also attended by Georgian Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili, Head of the Government Administration Levan Zhorzholiani, and Georgia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Davit Bakradze.
