Kobakhidze: Georgia Awaits Reciprocal Steps from US on Restoring Strategic Partnership

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said he had the opportunity to speak with both the US President and the US Secretary of State, during which he conveyed Georgia’s desire to restore the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Kobakhidze made the remarks to reporters at the memorial to those who died for Georgia’s territorial integrity.

According to the Prime Minister, Georgia has already taken a step and is now awaiting reciprocal steps from the United States.

“The visit was not to the United States, but to the United Nations. However, during the visit, I had the opportunity to speak with both the US President and the US Secretary of State, and I briefly noted that our desire is to restore the strategic partnership. This essentially depends on the United States itself. We have taken a step on our part and are waiting for reciprocal steps. This was my message during the brief conversations with both the US President and the Secretary of State.

“I had brief conversations with both the US President and the Secretary of State during the reception and stressed the importance for us of restoring the strategic partnership. We expressed our desire to restore the strategic partnership. The atmosphere was very positive, and the brief conversations went well,” Kobakhidze said.
