People detained in connection with anti-government protests in Georgia will be released if they confess and repent, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists on Monday.
He said the government’s promise to apply the relevant measures to those who admit their wrongdoing and express repentance remains in force.
“I welcome repentance and confession. In this case, our promise naturally remains in force. Everyone who confesses and repents will be subject to the relevant measures, and all will leave prison. I can only welcome this. Of course, our goal is not to have anyone in prison. Our objective is to uphold the rule of law. Accordingly, if people repent and confess, the principle of the rule of law will be upheld, and, at the same time, they will leave detention facilities. This is our appeal,” Kobakhidze said.
