The Israel Defense Forces on Wednesday claimed over 50 fighter jets took part in the operation, targeting infrastructure allegedly linked to Iran’s nuclear and missile programmes.
A centrifuge is a device used to enrich uranium, which can be used for civilian nuclear energy or in the development of nuclear weapons. Israel has long accused Iran of secretly pursuing nuclear arms capabilities - an allegation Tehran denies.
Iranian state media reported that among the targets were a missile factory near Tehran and a building associated with a military university that reportedly trains members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
In the hours leading up to the latest strikes, the Israeli military issued a warning in Persian via social media, advising residents in Tehran’s southwestern districts to evacuate.
Meanwhile, tensions flared further as rockets were launched into Israel late Monday night. According to Israeli reports, at least 15 missiles struck central parts of the country, with sirens sounding in multiple cities. Iran has not officially confirmed responsibility, but the attack follows a pattern of retaliatory strikes seen over the past several days.
The escalating confrontation began on 13 June, when Israel launched a military campaign targeting what it described as nuclear weapons development sites and other strategic facilities in Iran. Tehran responded with a wave of drone and missile attacks on Israeli territory.
