The founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party and former prime minister Bidzina Ivanishvili must be held accountable for his actions, former PM under the GD Giorgi Gakharia said on Thursday.

The politician who founded the For Georgia party following his resignation as the prime minister in 2021 due to controversies with the GD officials, Gakharia said he meant “political and historical responsibilities that are much more serious than any legal responsibilities”.

Responding to the question related to the 2019 rally dispersal in the Georgian parliament that was triggered by the presence of Russian MPs in the Georgian state legislature, Gakharia, who then served as the country’s interior minister, stressed Ivanishvili had not ordered the move.

Gakharia noted if the demonstrators broke into the parliament building that would be “more in Russian interests than any other developments”.
