Italfarmaco CEO praises Georgia’s commitment after Duchenne muscular dystrophy drug agreement

Italfarmaco CEO Francesco Di Marco has welcomed the agreement with the Georgian Government to supply Duvyzat (givinostat) for patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), praising the Health Ministry’s commitment to making the treatment available.

His comments came after Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze announced earlier today that Georgia had signed a contract with the Italian pharmaceutical company to procure the drug, becoming one of the first countries to include givinostat in its state-funded disease management programme for eligible DMD patients.

Di Marco said the company had worked closely with Georgia’s Ministry of Health over the past week to find a solution that would ensure access to the medicine for patients in the country.

“I was particularly impressed by the Ministry’s commitment and determination to make givinostat available to patients in Georgia. This agreement clearly demonstrates the power of partnership. When patients, governments and industry work together, nothing is impossible and the patient remains at the centre of every effort,” he said.

The Italfarmaco chief added that the company looks forward to continuing its cooperation with the Georgian Government and the patient community to ensure the treatment reaches all eligible patients.
