Health Ministry says treatment for Tamar Iarajuli’s minor child can be provided in Georgia

Georgia’s Ministry of Health has issued a statement regarding the treatment of the minor child of Tamar Iarajuli, following her public comments about the case.

The Ministry said the child’s health and best interests remain its top priority and noted that it had organised several meetings with leading medical specialists, as well as a multidisciplinary medical council, to determine the most appropriate course of treatment.

The body added the council concluded that Georgia has the necessary medical resources and specialist expertise to provide treatment in line with international clinical protocols, including surgery if required and any other necessary supportive procedures.

Officials stressed that all conditions are in place for the patient to receive high-quality, safe medical care that meets international standards.

The Ministry also stated that, should treatment abroad ultimately be deemed necessary, it is prepared to finance the required medical care within the limits of Georgian legislation.

The Health Ministry said it would continue to act in accordance with the patient’s best interests, professional medical assessments and the country’s legal framework.
