US Vice President JD Vance said the United States wants a sustainable peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, speaking at a joint press conference with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

“One of the biggest factors in preventing conflict and war is two peoples working together to achieve greater prosperity. Peace was achieved through the efforts of the US President, the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia. Together, peace was created where there had previously been war. In the future, we will build prosperity where there was only war and conflict,” Vance said.

He noted that the United States and Azerbaijan share a long-standing and important strategic partnership.

“Many may not know that Azerbaijan was among the last countries to withdraw troops from Afghanistan. We carried out operations under difficult conditions and were able to maintain our reputation at that time,” he said.

Vance also announced that the sides had signed a Strategic Partnership Charter, formally confirming bilateral ties. He said the agreement demonstrates that US–Azerbaijan relations will continue and bring benefits to both nations.

“We are working to prevent any renewal of conflict between the two countries and to build contacts between their peoples. We want the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan to be sustainable,” Vance added.
