Five minors have been arrested in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi on suspicion of committing group robbery and theft, including alleged thefts from pharmacies, grocery stores and the unlawful appropriation of mopeds, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Sunday.
The body added the suspects allegedly acted as a group and stole goods of various values from pharmacy and food store chains in Tbilisi before fleeing the scenes. Police also said one of the accused unlawfully took possession of mopeds belonging to private citizens.
The alleged crimes caused more than ₾14,000 ($5,000) in financial damage to several commercial establishments, the Ministry said.
Three of the detained minors had previous criminal convictions and were reportedly serving suspended sentences at the time of their arrest.
Police said searches conducted as part of the investigation resulted in the seizure of surveillance camera footage from the affected businesses, which investigators say supports the allegations against the suspects.
The offences carry a maximum penalty of up to eight years in prison.
