A court in Batumi has sentenced two men to 18 years in prison each for attempted group murder and violence after they allegedly assaulted a man and threw him into the Chorokhi River. The victim’s whereabouts remain unknown, the Prosecutor’s Office said.
The Batumi City Court found the defendants guilty after accepting the evidence presented by prosecutors.
The first defendant physically assaulted the victim in Batumi on 8 December 2025. Two days later, the defendant and his son allegedly attacked the man together, motivated by revenge.
The pair then took the victim to an area near the old bridge over the Chorokhi River, where they allegedly assaulted him again before throwing him into the river with the intention of killing him.
“The victim’s whereabouts remain unknown to this day,” the Prosecutor’s Office said.
The court convicted both defendants of attempted murder committed by a group, as well as related offences of violence. Each was sentenced to 18 years in prison for the combined offences.
