Police in Mtskheta-Mtianeti have arrested three previously convicted individuals on charges of unlawful imprisonment and armed robbery carried out by an organised group, the Interior Ministry said on Wednesday.

According to the ministry, investigators determined that the suspects attacked a resident of Mtskheta Municipality, unlawfully deprived the victim of freedom and physically assaulted the individual in an attempt to obtain a large sum of money.

The Interior Ministry said officers from the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Police Department detained all three suspects shortly after the incident following operational measures and investigative actions.

The offences are punishable by up to 12 years in prison.
