EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell arrived in Kyiv on Saturday to reassure Ukraine of Europe’s steadfast support. This was Brussels’s first high-level visit following Donald Trump’s recent US election victory.

In his social media post, Borrell highlighted Ukraine’s enduring priority for the EU.

“In Kyiv for my 5th visit since Russia’s full-scale invasion and last one as HRVP. EU support to Ukraine has been my personal priority during my mandate and will remain on top of the EU’s agenda,” he wrote on X.

Since Russia’s invasion, the EU has been a critical ally to Ukraine, providing extensive military and humanitarian aid. Borrell’s visit aims to reaffirm these commitments as he meets with Ukrainian leaders, demonstrating the EU’s continued solidarity with Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression. According to a tracker from the Kiel Institute, Europe together has spent around $125 billion on supporting Ukraine since Russia’s 2022 invasion, while the United States alone has coughed up more than $90 billion.
