Justice minister Rati Bregadze on Tuesday said that the government offered currently imprisoned former president Mikheil Saakashvili to bring any doctor, from any foreign clinic and follow his instructions during his treatment in Georgia.

“As the  life and health of each person is of utmost importance for the state, we express our readiness and offer convicted Saakashvili to bring any doctor from any foreign clinic whom the government will give the opportunity to be involved in his treatment,” Bregadze told a briefing.

Saakashvili has several times requested his transportation abroad for treatment.

The justice ministry has responded that such a decision could be made by a court based on the evidence that a convict was really in need of foreign treatment.

The third president, who currently holds Ukrainian citizenship, is now serving his six-year-term for abuse of power while in office, in two separate cases.

He was arrested in Tbilisi in October 2021 after eight years in self-imposed political exile.
