Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has accused European institutions of “encouraging and financing an attempted coup” in Georgia on 4 October 2025.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, Kaladze said there had been no response from European institutions to the case a year after the events.

“I have not heard any statement from European structures. On the contrary, there was only encouragement, because all of this was planned by them,” Kaladze said.

He alleged that a campaign aimed at triggering a coup and revolution in Georgia had been launched with European support and funding, with the goal of overthrowing the government.

Kaladze also accused unnamed foreign actors of seeking to bring “their agents” to power in Georgia in order to advance their own interests through the country and its population.
