Renovation works on Rustaveli Avenue in central Tbilisi are progressing according to schedule and are expected to be completed by the end of November, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said.

Speaking at a municipal government meeting on Thursday, Kaladze apologised to residents for the disruption caused by the works, saying that projects of this scale inevitably involve inconvenience.

The renovation includes the replacement of underground utilities and repairs to pedestrian pavements. Kaladze said the avenue would be fully upgraded once the works were complete.

He added that the renovation of buildings along Rustaveli Avenue was planned for next year.

Traffic has already been reopened between Chovelidze Street and Elbakidze Descent, although work continues on some sections. Preparations are under way to raise utility manhole covers before the final layers of asphalt are laid across the avenue, Kaladze said.
