A Ukrainian citizen has been arrested in Georgia on suspicion of drug-related offences involving the illegal possession and attempted sale of large quantities of narcotics, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) announced on Monday.
The suspect, identified only as V.A., born in 2000, was detained following a series of operational and investigative measures conducted by officers from the Kakheti Police Department’s Investigation and Detective Divisions, the Ministry said.
A search of the suspect’s apartment in the capital, Tbilisi, uncovered a significant quantity of controlled substances, including methadone, mephedrone, and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the body said. Law enforcement officers also seized drug packaging materials and electronic scales believed to have been used in preparation for distribution.
Additional drugs were discovered at locations identified by the accused, which police believe were intended for further sale.
If convicted, the suspect faces a prison sentence of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
