Kaja Kallas on Monday said the European Union has “certain issues” with Georgia, warning that the government is not taking sufficient steps towards EU membership despite its stated ambitions.
Speaking at the European Political Community summit in Yerevan, Kallas said recent actions by the Georgian authorities suggest the country is moving in the wrong direction.
She noted that this has practical implications for relations with the bloc, including constraints on financial support.
Kallas also highlighted the strategic importance of the South Caucasus, particularly amid ongoing tensions in the wider region, including the conflict involving Iran.
Referring to connectivity, she said discussions are under way on advancing the Middle Corridor as part of efforts to diversify trade routes between Europe and Asia.
Kallas stressed that the corridor is gaining importance as countries reassess supply chains and transport links in response to geopolitical developments.
