The Roads Department of Georgia has announced temporary traffic restrictions on several highways because of heavy snowfall, blizzards and reduced visibility.

The agency on Friday said all types of vehicle traffic have been temporarily suspended on the Gudauri (Posta) - Kobi section of the international Mtskheta–Stepantsminda–Lars highway due to blizzard conditions and limited visibility.

On the Tbilisi-Senaki-Leselidze highway, movement of vehicles with trailers and semi-trailers has been prohibited on the Kareli transport hub–Boriti transport hub section.

The department said special traffic regimes have also been introduced on other road sections as a result of intense snowfall and difficult meteorological conditions.

Due to ice, heavy snow and poor visibility, vehicles with trailers and semi-trailers are restricted on the Gomi–Sachkhere–Chiatura–Zestaponi road.

The Khashuri–Vale customs section; the Koda–Partskhisi–Manglisi–Tsalka–Ninotsminda road (km1–km42, Koda–Algeti village, and km110–km146); the Akhaltsikhe–Ninotsminda and Akhalkalaki–Kartsakhi roads; the Sachkhere–Oni road; the Nakerala Pass; and the Zugdidi–Jvari–Mestia–Lasdili road on the Jvari–Ushguli section.

All types of vehicle traffic have been temporarily restricted because of avalanche risk, heavy snow, poor visibility and blizzard conditions on the Nichbisi–Didgori–Didi Toneti road; Paravani Pass; the Batumi–Akhaltsikhe road on the Goderdzi resort–Utqisubani section; and on the Kala–Ushguli and Mele–Lasdili sections.
