The Embassy of Israel in Georgia has praised Georgian-born Israeli doctor Shota Musayev and other passengers whose courage it said played a decisive role in bringing 174 passengers to safety aboard a Flydubai flight.

The Embassy said Musayev was among those who rushed into the cockpit after an incident involving the pilots and helped other passengers neutralise an alleged attacker.

The embassy said Musayev then provided emergency medical assistance to the seriously injured pilot, Captain Smith Machhar, stopping severe bleeding and stabilising his condition until the aircraft landed.

“We are proud of and bow our heads to Shota Musayev and all those whose courage made a decisive contribution to the safe return of 174 passengers,” the embassy said.
