The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia on Thursday confirmed the arrest of a man accused of brutally murdering Kesaria Abramidze, a well-known transgender figure in Georgia. The suspect, a 26-year-old man, could face a prison sentence ranging from 16 to 20 years or even life imprisonment.

According to investigators, the murder occurred in the suspect’s home, where Abramidze was stabbed multiple times. The attack is believed to have been committed with particular cruelty due to her gender identity. Abramidze succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday.

Initially, the case was classified as premeditated murder under Article 108 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. However, as more details emerged, the charges were reclassified under the more severe Article 109, which includes factors of aggravated circumstances. The investigation into the tragic incident remains ongoing.

Abramidze was a prominent transgender celebrity, known for her activism and contributions to Georgia’s LGBTQ+ community. Her murder has sparked renewed discussions about violence against transgender individuals in the country.
